Worship and BAKING?

"We were created to worship God.  It is the reason for our existence both here on earth and throughout eternity.  Sometimes our concept of worship is going to church one hour each week.  But God desires continual fellowship with us and wants us to live a lifestyle characterized by worship."             - Call To Worship, Praying Through The Bible, 2003.
Piggy-backing on the message from this past Sunday (looking beyond the rear view and being the church in our community), how are you reaching the neighbors on your block or cul-de-sac while you live a lifestyle of worship throughout your week?

My wife and I have found our "go-to" evangelism strategy... baked goods.  For those of you who haven't yet met my wife, I hope you get the chance soon.  She's the beautiful brunette next to me every Sunday!  She's got a wonderful heart for people in need and she loves to use her gift of baking to reach them.  So, whether it's Christmas cookies or Pumpkin muffins or a home-baked loaf of bread, we'll use it to build a relationship with those around us by knocking on doors, offering a plate of goodies and introducing ourselves.  It's our way of 'opening doors' with people in our neighborhood, literally.

I have found, especially recently, that God can use anyone and anything at anytime, even something as seemingly silly as cookies or muffins, if we're only willing to be used by Him.

What are some worshipful things you've done or plan to do to reach those next door to you and be the church in your community?

Blessings "church"

Ben

  1. In the past, we have hosted neighborhood parties like "Holiday Neighbor Night" and "4th of July Pool Party". These are a very fun way to get to know our neighbors! I tend to be pretty shy about knocking on doors, so we would send our kids around to deliver the invitations. Since our kids are now grown, we haven't done this for a while. I think it's about time we do it again for this holiday season! Thanks for the reminder!
